XMAS 5

HOW TO PLANT YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE:

These trees are living plants and need to be treated as such. Their natural time of dormancy (winter rest period) must be accommodated to ensure good health and growth next year.

1. CHOOSE THE PLANTING SITE: Dig the hole, removing the soil and storing about half of the soil in a place where it will not freeze. The hole only needs to be as deep as the plant’s root ball, but should be 6-8 inches wider all around the root ball to provide room to move the root ball if necessary.

2. BRING IN YOUR TREE: Live trees can be brought into the home for approximately a week to ten days; a cooler place in the home is helpful if it is possible. Keep the plant away from sources of heat and avoid bright sunlight.

3. WATER YOUR TREE: The soil should be checked daily and kept evenly moist.

4. PLANT YOUR TREE: After Christmas, put the tree outside and allow the soil to freeze overnight. Once frozen, remove the root ball from the pot if potted, or plant as is if wrapped in burlap. Plant the tree outside using the soil you have stored. Make sure the top of the root ball is even with the surrounding soil, or up to one inch higher. Water the tree well when you plant it, and again about 1 week later or the next time the ground is not frozen. Apply 3-4″ of a bark mulch after playing.

NOTE: Due to the special care requirements of living Christmas trees, they are excluded from our normal guarantee for nursery stock. With proper care, many families now have several beautiful trees in their yards from past Christmases.
